CCTV - National Geographic Store, Regent Street
The brand-new National Geographic flagship store on Regent Street is much more than just a shop. It encompasses the ethos of the National Geographic brand, and brings the public a retail, dining and education space in a single location.
This, of course, brought specific challenges to the installation – add to this the tight deadlines and an extremely busy site, and you have an example of Heston Apex Europe’s ability to deliver quality no matter the circumstances.
Heston Apex Europe chose to install Sony IPELA cameras at this site in order to provide the client with a network based CCTV solution, which is suitable for local and remote monitoring from the company’s head office in Barcelona. The network cameras are connected to the client’s local area network at the site and they form part of the potentially global network using standard structured cabling products.
As well as the difficulty of working at an extremely busy site, we encountered and overcame various issues which arose during the installation. One such problem that we encountered was that the cameras on the upper floor of the building had to be routed through the riser at the far side of the building - which meant that the maximum distance between the camera and the network switch was exceeded. To solve this problem, a further cabinet was installed in the riser with a standard POE switch.
We believe that this true-network based security solution provides reliability, scalability and flexibilty for the client, enabling the addition of cameras or even other retail stores to a centrally monitored location without having to re-work the existing installation.
